Volunteer FAQs

  • Volunteers help steward our one-acre site so we can advance our mission to connect and nourish our community through regenerative agriculture here in Downtown Raleigh.

Our volunteers get down and dirty, build community and learn about sustainable practices of regenerative agriculture. They also support site preparation around events and other programming. Typical activities including weeding, hauling mulch, mowing / weed-whacking, watering, planting and occasional harvesting.

  • Visitors can expect an overview of the history of our nonprofit Farm and a walk through the site to learn about all of its sustainable features. Read through our website and check out our map to get grounded before your visit.

  • Yes. All volunteers and visitors are required to fill out a waiver.

  • Water Bottle – in the interest of sustainability, we do not provide disposable cups or plastic water bottles.

Protective Shoes – Due to the potential for foot injuries while using farm tools it is important to wear proper footwear. Sandals or open toed shoes are not permitted while actively working on the farm or taking part in a tour.

  • Kids under 15 are welcome with parental supervision, all others are welcome to come and work on the farm. Parents of all minors (under the age of 18) must sign a waiver.

  • We allow well-behaved, leashed four-legged friends at the Farm, provided their owners clean up after them and keep them away from production areas of the Farm (where food is growing).

“My favorite farm volunteer opportunity is Wine + Weeds, a Wednesday evening gathering of folks of different ages and gardening experience who come together to pull weeds, drink a little wine, and marvel at the productivity of this tiny slice of land in downtown Raleigh. Come join us! You’ll get a little dirty, have lots of fun, make new friends, and connect with nature in an unexpected spot. There’s also a recyclable cup of wine with your name on it.”
