Program Coordinator

25 hours/week at $18/hour

Start Date: April 21, 2025 (two weeks of shadowing current Program Coordinator)

Raleigh City Farm is a non-profit urban farm, founded in 2011 on 1.2 acres of vacant land near the Oakwood/Mordecai neighborhoods. Our team stewards the site using regenerative agricultural practices that benefit plants, people, pollinators and the planet and we harvest approx. 13,000 lbs of nutrient dense food annually that is made affordable and accessible through our Farmshare and Pay-What-You-Can Farmstand programs. We also educate and engage the community through volunteer workdays, tours, workshops, events and sharing digital content. Our Internship program serves our vision of a healthy community supporting the next generation of farmers.

We are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented team player who is passionate about regenerative agriculture and advancing healthy food systems. The right candidate must be self-motivated and be able to get the job done in collaboration with our team on the ground and through remote work. Strong proficiency with various tech platforms and excellent writing and communication skills essential. Must be available Wednesday evenings from 3-7:30pm for Pay-What-You-Can Farmstand from mid April-October and occasional Saturdays to operate pop-up Farmstand. Strong follow-up skills a must. Programs & General Responsibilities

  • Farmshare - year-round program that provides produce to nonprofit partners addressing food insecurity and access (see Farmshare distribution below)

    • Farmshare Distribution

      • Deepen impact of this core program that addresses RCF’s  food insecurity and access strategic goal

      • Cultivate relationships with point people and support promotional efforts with ED and marcomm committee through signage, emails, social, other

      • Liaise with Farm Team weekly to plan partner distribution based on yield

      • Connect with current Farmshare partners and rotate to ensure equitable distribution and explore additional partnerships that are mission-focused

  • Pay-What-You-Can (PWYC) Farmstand - program that provides  programs that runs for ~31 weeks from April-November on (Wednesdays and Intermittent Saturday Pop-ups). Funded by grant from Bank of America ($20k in 2024) 

    • Operations 

      • Recruit, cultivate and lead team of volunteers for customer interface/produce refills and bagging 

      • Greet customers and manage types:

        • Full price with cash or card

        • PWYC price/wooden tokens

        • Cultivator Club member rewards (2 items for $30/month and 3 items for $50/month)

        • Educate on RCF mission/vision/values/strategy and creative ways to use produce

        • Refine program at main site with plans for second site dependent on partnership plans

  • Farmstand Produce/Products: 

    • Connect with Farm Team for weekly harvest details (yield, varieties, pricing) 

    • Ensure adequate supplies for customers (i.e. bags, elastic bands, etc.)

    • Source more ecological packaging option 

  • Promotion:

    • Enhance PWYC messaging through signage for tables, posters, A-frames etc.

    • Post on social/other ways to drive customers - Collaborate with ED 

    • Engage a more diverse group of customers - Collaborate with Farmshare partners

    • Keep whiteboards updated with menu 

    • Move A-frame sign to driveway 

    • Increase/track distribution and use of PWYC $10 wooden tokens

  • Platform: 

    • Streamline our POS checkout and reporting process 

    • Manage Square/Stripe/others to capture sales and develop reports 

  • Load-out/Farmshare Tracking

    • Move leftover produce to cold storage

    • Bulk pack, weigh and label produce for Farmshare distribution

    • Store all items in office and lock up; turn off fans, bring in A-frame

  • Other Program Activities

    • Refine/implement current program offerings that include Artist in Residence and Farm to Camp with plans to develop “First Saturdays” beginning in May and “Plant A Row” in the summer.

    • Research and secure funding as noted in the philanthropy section


People/Volunteer Scheduling & Communication

  • Respond to incoming requests for volunteer engagement (volunteer@raleighcityfarm.org)

  • Work with the ED to become proficient in Squarespace (website) scheduling tool “acuity”

  • Manage volunteer calendars on Google

  • Communicate with groups and Farm Team pre and post

    • Private workgroups on Friday 

    • Community workgroups on first Saturdays

    • Others as needed

  • Increase volunteer opportunities with additional workdays, recruitment tactics, other to support site stewardship and education/engagement strategic goal

  • Support Agroecology Team to supply leaders for all volunteer engagements (i.e. W+W, First Saturday, Private, other


Philanthropic Responsibilities

Shift to these responsibilities in Nov/Dec and Q1 when Farmstand closes

  • Research funding opportunities to support program goals

  • Write, track grants, sponsorships and other funding sources

  • Cultivate relationships and attend relevant networking events


Progress Responsibilities

  • Provide data tracking to FM and ED with all relevant info on a weekly/monthly basis

  • Enhance our data tracking systems 

  • Develop a produce dashboard to share out monthly 

  • Develop YE outcome reports for funders and annual report

  • Leverage Future Farms Plan expansion to refine programs

Other Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly meetings with Farm Team

  • Attend monthly board meetings (not required)

  • Attend community networking events
