Reflections on 2021's Harvest Dinner

Did you feel it? The crispness of the air, the sunlight glowing through the leaves as it plunged behind the treeline, the warm fullness of your belly, the spice of wine on your tongue? The pure delight of sitting among friends again and sharing an expertly prepared meal. What a gift.

The energy of Harvest Dinner was back in full force this year and for many it couldn’t have come at a better time.

“Coming together as friends under the stars for the Raleigh City Farm Harvest Dinner was the perfect jolt of hope and magic my group of girlfriends needed right now,” said attendee Beth Eiserloh Johnson. “A fabulous evening with incredible live music, food, wine, and great company all in support of this incredible Raleigh treasure.”

The event this year was a two parter—something for everyone. Beneath the shiny autumn moon, we safely gathered on October 17th for a 4-course meal from Plates Neighborhood Kitchen. One week later we offered delish to-go meals from (ish) delicatessen. We are beyond grateful to everyone who supported this annual fundraiser that netted over $30,000 to advance our mission: to connect and nourish our community through regenerative agriculture.

Huge thanks to our incredible featured chefs, Plates’ David Mitchell and (ish)’s Matt Fern, who each created exceptional meals for our guests. Thank you to our dynamic team of volunteers, some of the best out there. Special thanks to our host sponsors, Easter Maynard, Erie Insurance, and Spoonflower, and all of the other sponsors who generously provided the funding to make this event a reality. Maria Williford, our Farm Manager, is responsible for much of the produce featured in each meal, and we continue to be grateful for all of the hard work, passion, and skill she’s brought to our 1-acre plot.

And of course, this event would not have been possible without YOU, our community of Farm Friends. Thank you for your support of all that we do.

Before you go, please enjoy these lovely event photos from photographer Alex Craig (@flame_wolf) and Spoonflower. Until next year, see you around the Farm!
