Our Newly Stated Mission, Vision, and Values
The Raleigh City Farm team has been engaged in a strategic planning process over the past six months with assistance from Executive Service Corps, a nonprofit capacity-building organization based here in Raleigh. Since its inception as a nonprofit in 2011, Raleigh City Farm has been growing and adapting to honor the intent of the founding board: to create a place where anyone can learn about farming. The original mission was to transform the one-acre site at the corner of Blount and Franklin into a demonstration farm. This evolved into a food hub strategy with the aggregation and sale of produce from Piedmont farmers to downtown Raleigh restaurants. The current mission: to grow the next generation of farmers by connecting our community to sustainable agriculture, is the result of many hours of thoughtful discussion and strategic work from the current board and staff.Our long-term vision: a community engaged in a vibrant, sustainable food system, supported by a network of thriving farmers has been embraced by our team and will be carried out through five goals: governance, education, resource development, infrastructure and advocacy. All of this is reinforced by our deeply held beliefs in five key core values: entrepreneurship, local food, community, sustainability and well-being. We’re excited to share our detailed plan at the 5th annual Bearthday celebration on April 22nd and continue championing the next generation of farmers and the vital importance of eating local, healthy food.
