Farm to Camp with new Tech Ingredients from Telus

Raleigh City Farm has been coming to the Salvation Army for the past five years to host Farm to Camp. During this program, campers learn about produce grown on the farm and how to cook it. Each week a chef comes in and prepares food with produce grown from the farm for the campers to try. This summer a new ingredient was added in — technology! Raleigh City Farm received a generous grant from the TELUS North Carolina Community Board.

After the campers tried the food, they then used tablets to learn about the produce that the chefs used. We provided a slideshow that featured pictures of the different fruits and vegetables along with facts, history, and health benefits.

At the end of the summer, there were two additional “Telus Tech Talks,” where campers reviewed the slides from previous weeks and played games that were all about what they had learned this summer. At one of the “Telus Tech Talks,” campers played a game of Kahoot using the tablets, where they got in teams and had to answer different questions about what they had learned. The new technology ingredient was extremely beneficial to Farm to Camp and helped the campers learn even more about the new foods they were trying!
