Full of Gratitude in 2019
We want to carve out some time to share all we're grateful for in 2019. We've had so many infrastructure projects, made possible by our generous supporters! Keep scrolling for photos and descriptions of just a few the infrastructure updates made this past year.
Barn Quilt
The farmer storage shed recently got a fresh coat of red paint — and is now beautifully decorated with our very own Barn Quilt, courtesy Lyndsey Delk from BCBSNC.
Community Pavilion
In 2017, you all started to help us build a community pavilion! Thanks to all your support, we were recently able to build a beautiful expanded space for the community to gather on the Farm. The shed has more storage, there is a convenient walkway to the farmer's cold storage, and tons more shaded space for our workshops and gatherings.
Apiary
What could BEE better than pollinators on the farm? Grateful to have these hives buzzing with our bee friends, gifted to us by neighbor, Nic Eason, and originally supported by the Oakwood Garden Club. Check out the three boxes in our apiary behind Interim General Manager, Lisa Grele Barrie.
Sir Walter Rabbit
Have you taken a selfie with Sir Walter Rabbit at the farm yet? He graces the front of our Rainwater Cisterns, courtesy amazing local artist Jenny Eggleston. Thanks to the talent of local artists like Jenny, we have beautiful art drawing attention to the eco-friendly cisterns. Stored rainwater can be used on the Farm in production areas, thereby promoting sustainable watering practices by reducing the Farm’s sole dependence on the use of City water.
Little Miss Figgy
Logan's Garden Shop in Seaboard Station has sponsored a bed at the Farm! Little Miss Figgy, one of the fit plants in the bed, is absolutely thriving. The bed is maintained by all our many volunteers who visit the farm each week. Thankful for our farm friends at Logan's and our Raleigh community for digging where you live.
Outdoor Classroom
We have a great outdoor classroom right in the middle of our Food Forest, made more functional thanks to our friends at Leaf & Limb. We're able to teach the next generation of farmers under the shade of our fruit trees. Thankful for our friends that keep the farm looking its best and operational, so we can connect our community to sustainable agriculture.
Thank you again for everyone who helped support our mission to grow the next generation of farmers by connecting our community to sustainable agriculture.
