Raleigh City Farm Launches Farm to Camp at Marsh Creek Park
We’re excited to host summer camps at Marsh Creek Park through our Farm to Camp program. Funded by TELUS, we’re hosting 8 weeks of hands-on sessions that invite campers to collectively tend to a raised-bed teaching garden, participate in seed saving, and reflect on how they can carry these lessons and relationships beyond the garden.
Program & Education Coordinator, Anton Fatula, engaged 14 enthusiastic elementary-aged youth in the teaching garden during the second session. The program kicked off with campers introducing themselves and sharing their favorite vegetables. They had some great answers, including collards, corn, and edamame.
Anton then led the group on a walk through the garden, encouraging everyone to look closely and point out what had changed since their visit earlier in the week. The campers were excited to see how much the plants had grown in just a few days and eagerly shared their observations.
After the walk, the campers split into small groups and got to work tackling the day’s tasks. They helped with mechanical insect removal, pulled weeds, trellised the beans, saved seeds, and pruned the tomatillos. It was wonderful to see everyone working together, learning new skills, and practicing care in the teaching garden. We can't wait to see what they'll discover during their next visit!
