Reflecting on our GROWTH in 2020
As we welcome the new year with more clarity, hope and resilience, we wanted to take a moment to review all that we accomplished during a memorable year of change, reckoning and upheaval in our backyards and around the world.
PEOPLE
Ushered in “New Season of Stewardship” with Josh Sattin resulting in a remarkable site transformation
Trained seven interns including Tessie Castillo, Catie Craft, Abby Cozens, Erica Lisowe, Machaela Maille, Jessica Powers, Kate Shadwell in sustainable, regenerative agriculture
Engaged passionate volunteers who logged in over 4,000 hours of service
Grew our Cultivator Club individual giving program to 30 donors
PRODUCE
Harvested 2,520 lbs of produce from the field and high tunnel
Sold 1,610 lbs of produce at our weekly FARMSTAND from April-October
Offered 25 varieties of fruits and vegetables
PLANTS
Tended rain garden, pollinator buffer and food forest with the support of partners Leaf & Limb and floriculture volunteer team
Cultivated and harvested flowers from Logan’s Garden Shop bed for ~300 bouquets
Constructed composting station to manage all organic materials
PROGRAMS & EVENTS
FARMSHARE - Shared 910 lbs of produce with our nonprofit partners
FARM TO CAMP - Engaged ~200 campers in the sourcing and preparation of healthy meals with Chef Ryan McGuire and shared ~450 lbs of produce
YOGA ON THE FARM - Partnered with Renée Baker to provide 20 weeks of yoga with ~80 participants
WINE+WEEDS - Hosted 20 socially distanced workdays and ~200 participants underwritten by Wine Authorities
FARM FLOWER DESIGNS - Partnered with Meagan Chabot, The Barefoot Gardener, for three workshops and 30 participants
PARTNERSHIPS
Developed FARMSHARE partnerships with A Place at the Table, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Logan’s Plant a Row for the Hungry, The Marcus Harris Foundation Neighborfood Express, Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC’s Middle Mile Program
Cultivated Black NC partners Golden Organic Farm, The Harriet Tubman Freedom Farm, Off Grid in Color, Tall Grass Food Box and Sankofa Farms and raised $2,680 to support their work
Enjoyed contribution of blueberries and transplants from Bella Blues Blueberries
Sold microgreens from NextGen Farmer Johnny Davis at our Farmstand
Re-engaged Spoonflower as Harvest Dinner at Home Host sponsor and welcomed Barringer Construction
PIVOTS
Developed audit, communication and safety protocols for COVID-19
Re-envisioned our annual fundraiser Harvest Dinner with an “At Home” version with significant community profit sharing
PROGRESS
Purchased Hydroponic Greenhouse from Triangle Hemp and began Greenhouse Collaborative Project
Invited by Food Tank to be the Raleigh partner for their “Food Tank Live: Resetting the Food System” 50-state tour in fall 2021
Increased website traffic to 24K users and social media followers to 26K
