Meet Our Winter/Spring 2021 Intern Team
We’re excited to welcome four new interns who will be supporting Farm Manager Maria Williford for the Winter/Spring season. They come from a variety of backgrounds and bring a diverse range of experiences and talent to support our mission.
Renea Austin is a senior Crop and Soil Sciences student with a concentration in Agronomy at NC State with plans to pursue a Master’s in Agricultural and Extension Education and seek a position as a county extension agent. While her classes at NC State have emphasized how large-scale production agriculture settings function, she’s most passionate about the operations of small, local farms and how they can play a role in removing the barriers of our current food supply system to be inclusive and sustainable. Throughout this pandemic, she has become acutely aware of the growing number of individuals and families who don’t have equitable access to quality food, and she’s excited to be a part of the impact that RCF is making in the community through its Farmshare program.
Garrett May is a Junior in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at NC State and is pursuing a degree in Agricultural Business Management with a minor in Entrepreneurship. He is passionate about cultivation and entrepreneurship and is working with friends to create an aquaculture business focused on growing and selling shrimp on-line. He is a big fan of Raleigh City Farm's values and entrepreneurial spirit and firmly believes that change starts locally in our community.
Kathy Ramirez has a business background and marketing experience working for a multinational corporation. A native of El Salvador, she recently moved to Raleigh with my husband who is pursuing a PhD at NC State University. She’s been involved with the Scouts and undertaken reforestation projects to support her Salvadoran community. A lover of the natural world, she is excited to be investing her time in learning more about sustainable agriculture working on her English and giving back to this community she now calls home.
Hailee Rogers has degrees in Psychology and Geology with additional training in diversity and inclusion and moved to Raleigh within the past year. Her professional background includes positions in retail, marketing and the service industry. She grew up in the country surrounded by farms and has always been interested in regenerative agriculture but did not have a place to get hands-on experience. She’s excited to leverage this opportunity to connect with her past, create roots in the community, and grow from the experience.
Be sure to say hello to this awesome team the next time you visit the Farm!
