Let’s DIG IN to Help Our Farm Neighbors in Western NC after Hurricane Helene

As we prepare for our annual Harvest Dinner fundraiser and celebrate another season of growth at Raleigh City Farm, our attention and hearts are also focused on farming communities in western North Carolina who have been seriously impacted by Hurricane Helene.

We’ve chosen to highlight and lift up three organizations that would benefit from your support today so they can rebuild and support the community’s recovery from the storm’s devastation.

Two farms are similar in size to Raleigh City Farm and aligned in their mission, vision, and values. Another organization is dedicated to strengthening the High Country local food system by supporting producers and increasing the demand for local food.

Dig In! Yancey Community Garden

DIg In! Yancey Community Garden was founded in 2011 (just like us) and is located in Burnsville in Yancey County, one of the hardest hit areas. Their operations are effectively immobilized due to the catastrophic impacts of flooding and landslides. You can support their rebuilding efforts HERE

Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture (BRWIA)

Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture (BRWIA) programming supports 82 producers in 18 counties in NC, TN and VA and they’ve been doing this important work for 20 years. They are on the front lines of recovery, providing disaster resources, food distribution, volunteer support and vital community connections. You can support their efforts HERE

Root Cause Farm

Root Cause Farm was founded in 2009 in Fairview, NC. They suffered some road damage, but fortunately, the majority of their crops survived and they are distributing through pop-ups and groups who are cooking and sharing food. They are also donating food to World Central Kitchen and Equal Plates. You can support their efforts HERE.

We’re inspired by the outpouring of community support and the determination and resilience of the communities who were impacted by this epic storm. We stand in solidarity with our far flung farming families and send them strength and hope as they begin to process the long road to recovery that lies ahead.
