Celebrating Continued Growth: Blount/Delway Expansion and Future Farms Plan & Fund!

We're thrilled to provide updates on the first phase of our Future Farms Plan with expansion into two adjacent lots. In record time, we’ve transformed more underutilized land into productive farmland to carry on the vision of our founders. This further advances our mission to connect and nourish our community through regenerative agriculture and we’re proud of our accomplishments!

Increased Site Stewardship

On May 1, 2024, we renewed our lease for another two-year term and added two adjacent lots at 800 N. Blount and 206 Delway in partnership with our landlord at JT Hobby & Son, who also owns and manages the Person Street Plaza. This increases the acreage of our site from 1 to 1.2 acres, which translates to 20% more space to grow healthy food for our community and increase our education and engagement opportunities.

Volunteers Dig In

Since May, we’ve hosted more than 20 volunteer groups who have helped make this transformation possible. They’ve rolled up their sleeves and assisted with clean-up, weeding, pruning, planting, and mulching with great energy and enthusiasm.

Our crop plan incorporated existing plants (asparagus, fruit trees, and herbs) with new plantings, including raspberries, sweet potatoes, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, and melons. We also devoted two 50-foot rows to producing flowers! We’ve expanded our irrigation system and are working on our curb appeal, signage, and new program ideas to teach people how to grow their own food.

Our Growth Story

It’s important to pause and reflect on how much we’ve grown over the years:

  • Back in 2010, we were an empty lot and an idea waiting to happen.

  • In 2011, zoning was approved, articles of incorporation filed, and fundraising launched.

  • From 2012 - 2014, we began to build infrastructure and grow more food and friendships.

  • From 2015 - 2019, we hosted many farmers and events, and doubled down on strategic planning.

  • In 2020, we changed our business model and shifted our focus to addressing food insecurity and access.

  • And now, in 2024, we've launched our Future Farms Plan and Fund to address expansion beyond our current site and sustain operations into the future.
