Grateful thanks to all of the intern applicants who responded to our internship application. It was such a tough choice, but we landed on three outstanding new interns: Abby Cozens, Machaela Maille and Jessica Powers. Keep reading to learn more!

Abby Cozens is an herbalist in training and a firm believer in healing your body through food. She is passionate about soil health and believes it all begins there: from making our ecosystem thrive, to the health of our bodies, mind, and spirits. Abby worked on a small market garden in Wilmington, NC and will be starting a three month internship next year with Herbpharm on their organic farm in Oregon to learn more about Herbal Medicine.

Machaela Maille recently relocated to Raleigh from Brooklyn because of COVID-19. In Brooklyn she worked as an Event Coordinator for Pursalen, NYC's first trash free and carbon neutral catering company. With a background in different hospitality roles including waitress, pastry chef and events, she came to Raleigh City Farm to immerse herself in the world of agriculture to see how these roles could blend together. Her goal in ten years is to open a business with her fiancé that highlights farm fresh food.

Jessica Powers is a senior at NC State University studying horticulture, sustainable materials and plant biology. She has always been passionate about plants and gardening. She grew up in Raleigh gardening with her grandma and helps her out with landscaping and small scale gardening at her home. She is interested in sustainable urban farming because of the importance of community involvement and education that inevitably produces a widespread effect of access to knowledge and resources that carry on in communities generationally.

We’re thrilled to be growing the next generation of farmers with this talented new crop!
